Training for your CompTIA A+ covers four specialised areas – you’ll need exam certification in two of these areas to be seen as competent in A+. For this reason, many training establishments limit their course to 2 of the four areas. We think this isn’t enough – yes you’ll have qualified, but knowledge of every section will give you a distinct advantage in your working life, where you’ll need a more comprehensive understanding. So that’s why you should train in everything.

A+ computer training courses cover diagnostics and fault finding – via hands on and remote access, as well as learning to build, repair and fix and working in antistatic conditions.

If you’re considering being the kind of individual who works in a multi-faceted environment – supporting, fixing and maintaining networks, you’ll need to add CompTIA Network+, or consider an MCSA or MCSE with Microsoft to give you a more advanced experience of the way networks work.

A knowledgeable and practiced advisor (in direct contrast to a salesman) will ask questions and seek to comprehend your abilities and experience. There is no other way of working out your starting level of study.

If you have a strong background, or even a touch of live experience (some industry qualifications maybe?) then it’s more than likely your starting level will be quite dissimilar from a trainee who has no experience.

Always consider starting with some basic user skills first. Starting there can make the slope up to the higher-levels a bit more manageable.

Of course: the training course or a certification isn’t what this is about; the job or career that you’re getting the training for is. Too many training companies place too much importance on the course or the qualification.

Don’t let yourself become part of the group who select a program that seems ‘fun’ or ‘interesting’ – and get to the final hurdle of an accreditation for an unrewarding career path.

Get to grips with earning potential and what level of ambition fits you. Usually, this will point the way to what precise exams will be expected and what industry will expect from you in return.

Seek guidance and advice from a professional advisor, even if you have to pay a small fee – as it’s a lot cheaper and safer to find out at the beginning if your choices are appropriate, instead of discovering after several years of study that you aren’t going to enjoy the job you’ve chosen and have to return to the start of another program.

There is no way of over emphasising this: You have to get round-the-clock 24×7 instructor support. You’ll severely regret it if you don’t follow this rule rigidly.

Avoid, like the plague, any organisations which use call-centres ‘out-of-hours’ – with the call-back coming in during standard office hours. This is useless when you’re stuck and need help now.

The best trainers incorporate three or four individual support centres from around the world. An online system provides an interactive interface to link them all seamlessly, at any time you choose, there is always help at hand, with no hassle or contact issues.

Never settle for less than this. Direct-access round-the-clock support is the only kind that ever makes the grade when it comes to computer-based training. Maybe burning the midnight-oil is not your thing; but for the majority of us however, we’re out at work when traditional support if offered.

Exam ‘guarantees’ are sometimes offered as part of a training package – this always means you have to pay for the exams at the start of your training. However, prior to embracing a course with such a promise, why not consider this:

Certainly it isn’t free – you’re still being charged for it – it’s just been wrapped up in the price of the package.

If you want to get a first time pass, evidence suggests you must fund each exam as you take it, focus on it intently and apply yourself as required.

Do the examinations somewhere close to home and don’t pay up-front, but seek out the best deal for you when you’re ready.

A great deal of money is secured by many training colleges who take the exam money up-front. For various reasons, many students don’t take their exams but the company keeps the money. Believe it or not, there are companies around who depend on students not taking their exams – as that’s how they make a lot of their profit.

Pay heed to the fact that, in the majority of cases of ‘exam guarantees’ – the company controls how often and when you can do your re-takes. They’ll only allow a re-take once completely satisfied.

On average, exams cost about 112 pounds twelve months or so ago through local VUE or Pro-metric centres throughout the country. So don’t be talked into shelling out hundreds or thousands of pounds more to get ‘Exam Guarantees’, when it’s no secret that the responsible approach is study, commitment and preparing with good quality mock and practice exams.

A very small number of men and women in the UK today are enjoying job satisfaction. Of course, most won't do a thing. The fact that you're reading this at a minimum suggests that you're considering or may be ready for a change.

A very small number of men and women in the UK today are enjoying job satisfaction. Of course, most won’t do a thing. The fact that you’re reading this at a minimum suggests that you’re considering or may be ready for a change.

When considering retraining, it’s crucial to first define what you DO want and DON’T want from the career you’d like to train for. You need to know that the grass actually is greener before you put a lot of energy into taking a new turn. So much better to look at the big picture first, to avoid disappointment:

* Do you want to interact with other people? If so, do you like working with the same people or do you want to meet lots of new people? Or would you rather work alone with a task?

* Have you given much thought to which area you choose to work in? (With the economic downturn, it’s even more crucial to be selective.)

* Is this the final time you imagine you’ll re-train, and if it is, will your chosen career path service that need?

* Is it important for the course you’re re-training in to be in an area where as far as you can see you will be able to work up to retirement age?

When listing your options, it’s relevant that your number one choice is the IT sector – it’s no secret that it’s on the grow. IT isn’t all techie geeks staring at computers every day – it’s true those roles do exist, but the majority of roles are carried out by Joe averages who get on very well.

Of all the important things to consider, one of the most essential is always proper direct-access 24×7 support with professional mentors and instructors. Far too often we see trainers who only seem to want to help while they’re in the office (9am till 6pm, Monday till Friday usually) and nothing at the weekends.

Try and find training with proper support available at any time you choose (irrespective of whether it’s the wee hours on Sunday morning!) You want access directly to professional tutors, and not simply some messaging service that means you’re waiting for tutors to call you back when it’s convenient for them.

We recommend looking for training programs that incorporate three or four individual support centres from around the world. All of them should be combined to give a single entry point together with access round-the-clock, when it’s convenient for you, without any problems.

Never compromise when it comes to your support. Many would-be IT professionals that drop-out or fail, would have had a different experience if they’d got the right support package in the first place.

So many training providers only concern themselves with gaining a certificate, and completely miss the reasons for getting there – which is of course employment. Always begin with the final destination in mind – too many people focus on the journey.

You could be training for only a year and end up performing the job-role for decades. Avoid the mistake of finding what seems like an ‘interesting’ training program and then spend decades in something you don’t even enjoy!

Prioritise understanding the exact expectations industry will have. Which exams they will want you to have and how you’ll build your experience level. It’s definitely worth spending time thinking about how far you reckon you’re going to want to progress your career as often it can present a very specific set of certifications.

Seek help from an experienced industry professional who understands the sector you wish to join, and is able to give you ‘A typical day in the life of’ outline of what kinds of tasks you’ll be undertaking with each working day. It just makes sense to know if this change is right for you well before you embark on your training program. There’s really no reason in kicking off your training and then find you’ve gone the wrong way entirely.

Have you recently questioned the security of your job? Normally, we only think of this after we get some bad news. But really, The cold truth is that true job security has gone the way of the dodo, for the vast majority of people.

We can however locate security at the market sector level, by searching for areas in high demand, together with a lack of qualified workers.

The IT skills shortfall in the country falls in at roughly 26 percent, as noted by the most recent e-Skills investigation. To put it another way, this clearly demonstrates that the United Kingdom can only find three properly accredited workers for every four jobs that exist at the moment.

This basic fact clearly demonstrates the requirement for more technically qualified computer professionals around the country.

Because the IT sector is developing at such a quick pace, there really isn’t any other market worth considering for a new future.

Exam ‘guarantees’ are sometimes offered as part of a training package – they always involve paying for the exam fees up-front, at the very beginning of your studies. However, prior to embracing the chance of a guarantee, think about this:

Thankfully, today we tend to be a little bit more aware of sales ploys – and generally we know that for sure it is actually an additional cost to us – they’re not just being charitable and doling out freebies!

If you want to pass first time, then you should fund each exam as you take it, give it the necessary attention and apply yourself as required.

Isn’t it in your interests to find the best exam deal or offer when you’re ready, rather than coughing up months or even a year or two in advance to a training course provider, and to do it locally – instead of miles away at the college’s beck and call?

Big margins are secured by a number of companies who get money for exam fees in advance. For various reasons, many students don’t take their exams but the company keeps the money. Amazingly, there are training companies who rely on that fact – as that’s how they make a lot of their profit.

Also, exam guarantees often have very little value. The majority of companies won’t pay again for an exam until you’ve completely satisfied them that you’re ready this time.

With average Prometric and VUE exams in the United Kingdom costing around 112 pounds, by far the best option is to pay for them as you take them. There’s no sense in throwing away maybe a thousand pounds extra at the start of your studies. Study, commitment and preparing with good quality mock and practice exams is what will really guarantee success.

If searching for certified training from Microsoft, it stands to reason you'll want training providers to offer a good number of the most superior training courses currently available.

If searching for certified training from Microsoft, it stands to reason you’ll want training providers to offer a good number of the most superior training courses currently available.

It’s advisable to consider all the options with an advisor who understands the commercial demands for IT staff, and will help you select the best kind of work to go with your personal characteristics.

Having selected the area you want to get into, you’ll need an appropriate course customised to your ability level and skill set. Your study program should more than match your expectations.

The area most overlooked by those considering a training program is the concept of ‘training segmentation’. Essentially, this is the breakdown of the materials for timed release to you, which vastly changes what you end up with.

A release of your materials piece by piece, according to your own speed is how things will normally arrive. This sounds logical, but you should consider these factors:

What could you expect if you didn’t actually complete each section at the required speed? Often the staged order doesn’t come as naturally as some other order of studying might.

To provide the maximum security and flexibility, most students now choose to make sure that every element of their training is couriered out in one package, all at the beginning. It’s then your own choice in what order and how fast or slow you want to finish things.

With all the options available, is it any wonder that a large percentage of newcomers to the industry have no idea which career they will enjoy.

As without any commercial skills in Information Technology, how can most of us understand what anyone doing a particular job actually does?

Usually, the way to come at this question properly comes from an in-depth conversation around several areas:

* Personalities play a starring part – what gives you a ‘kick’, and what are the areas that really turn you off.

* Do you hope to achieve a key dream – for example, being your own boss sometime soon?

* What scale of importance is the salary – is an increase your main motivator, or is job satisfaction a little higher on your list of priorities?

* Considering all that IT encapsulates, you really need to be able to understand how they differ.

* The level of commitment and effort you’ll have available to spend on your training.

When all is said and done, the only real way of understanding everything necessary is via a good talk with an experienced advisor that through years of experience will be able to guide you.

It’s so important to understand this key point: It’s essential to obtain proper 24×7 round-the-clock instructor and mentor support. You’ll definitely experience problems if you don’t adhere to this.

Avoid, like the plague, any organisations that use ‘out-of-hours’ messaging systems – with your call-back scheduled for office hours. This is useless when you’re stuck and need an answer now.

The very best training providers use multiple support centres from around the world. By utilising an interactive interface to link them all seamlessly, any time of the day or night, help is just seconds away, without any problems or delays.

Always pick a trainer that is worth purchasing from. As only live 24×7 support gives you the confidence to make it.

The world of information technology is one of the more electrifying and revolutionary industries that you could be a part of. To be working on the cutting-edge of technology is to do your bit in the gigantic changes shaping life over the next few decades.

Computing technology and communication via the internet will spectacularly alter our lives over the coming years; overwhelmingly so.

If making decent money is high on your list of priorities, you will welcome the news that the usual remuneration for most men and women in IT is considerably higher than salaries in other market sectors.

It’s no secret that there is a substantial nationwide need for qualified IT professionals. And as growth in the industry shows little sign of contracting, it appears there’s going to be for the significant future.

If you’re looking for Cisco training but you have no experience with routers, then the qualification you require is the CCNA. This training program has been put together to train men and women who want practical know how on routers. Big organisations who have different locations utilise them to connect computer networks in different rooms to allow their networks to keep in touch. The Internet also is based on huge numbers of routers.

You must have a good understanding of the operation and function of computer networks, as networks are connected to routers. Otherwise, you’ll probably struggle. Why not find training that also includes basic networking skills – perhaps Network+ and A+, before you start a CCNA course. Some companies will design a bespoke package for you.

Find a tailored course that covers everything to ensure you’ve got the appropriate skills and abilities prior to getting going with Cisco.

Don’t accept anything less than the latest Microsoft (or any other key organisation’s) authorised simulation materials and exam preparation packages.

Some students can get confused by trying to prepare themselves with questions that are not from authorised sources. Quite often, the phraseology is unfamiliar and it’s vital that you know this.

Clearly, it is vital to know that you’re absolutely ready for your actual certification exam prior to doing it. Going over ‘mock’ tests logs the information in your brain and will save a lot of money on wasted exam attempts.

The somewhat scary thought of finding your first IT job can be eased by some training providers because they offer a Job Placement Assistance programme. Often, this feature is bigged up too much, as it is genuinely quite straightforward for any focused and well taught person to find a job in this industry – because there’s a great need for trained staff.

Update your CV at the beginning of your training though – you should get plenty of help from your training provider on this. Don’t delay till you’ve finished your exams.

Having the possibility of an interview is more than not being regarded at all. A surprising amount of junior support jobs are bagged by people in the early stages of their course.

You’ll normally experience quicker service from a specialist independent regional employment service than you’ll experience from any training course provider’s employment division, as they will be more familiar with the area and local employers.

Essentially, if you put the same amount of effort into securing your first job as into training, you’re not going to hit many challenges. A number of trainees bizarrely spend hundreds of hours on their learning program and then call a halt once certified and would appear to think that businesses will just discover them.

Does job security truly exist anymore? Here in the UK, where industry can change its mind on a whim, we’d question whether it does.

When we come across escalating skills shortages and increasing demand though, we often locate a fresh type of security in the marketplace; driven forward by a continual growth, employers struggle to find enough staff.

Reviewing the computing industry, the most recent e-Skills analysis demonstrated a 26 percent deficit in trained staff. Essentially, we can’t properly place more than 3 out of each 4 job positions in IT.

Gaining proper commercial IT certification is consequently a fast-track to realise a long-term as well as worthwhile livelihood.

With the market developing at the speed it is, it’s unlikely there’s any better market worth considering as a retraining vehicle.

One interesting way that colleges make extra profits is by charging for exams up-front then giving it ‘Exam Guarantee’ status. This sounds impressive, but let’s just examine it more closely:

Everyone knows they’re still footing the bill for it – it’s quite obvious to see that it’s been added into the full cost of the package supplied by the training provider. It’s absolutely not free (it’s just marketing companies think we’ll fall for anything they say!)

We all want to pass first time. Taking your exams progressively one by one and funding them as you go makes it far more likely you’ll pass first time – you put the effort in and are mindful of the investment you’ve made.

Why pay your training course provider in advance for exam fees? Hold on to your money and pay for the exam at the time, rather than pay marked up fees – and do it in a local testing centre – rather than in some remote place.

Is there a good reason to pay interest on a bigger loan than is necessary because you’ve paid early for exams when there’s absolutely nothing that says you have to? A lot of profit is made because training colleges are charging all their exam fees up-front – and banking on the fact that many won’t be taken.

Don’t forget, with ‘Exam Guarantees’ from most places – the company controls how often and when you can re-take the exam. Subsequent exam attempts are only authorised at the company’s say so.

Average exam fees were around the 112 pounds mark twelve months or so ago through Prometric or VUE centres around the United Kingdom. So don’t be talked into shelling out hundreds or thousands of pounds more to have ‘Exam Guarantees’, when common sense dictates that what’s really needed is study, commitment and preparing with good quality mock and practice exams.

Does an MCSE appeal to you? If the answer’s ‘yes’, there’s a good chance that you’ll fall into one of the following categories: You’re currently an IT professional and you’d like to consolidate your skill-set with an MCSE certification. Or this could be your first step into the computer workplace, and your research tells you that there’s a growing demand for certified networking professionals.

During your research, you will notice training providers that reduce their costs by not upgrading their courses to the latest version from Microsoft. Steer clear of such training providers as it will create challenges for you at exam time. If your knowledge is of an old version, it could be impossible to pass.

Training providers ought to be committed to finding the right path for aspiring trainees. Mentoring education is as much concerned with guiding people on establishing which direction to go in, as well as helping them get there.

The perhaps intimidating chore of getting your first role in IT can be relieved because some trainers offer a Job Placement Assistance programme. At the end of the day it isn’t so complicated as you might think to get employment – once you’re trained and certified; employers in this country need your skills.

Bring your CV up to date as soon as possible however – look to your training company for advice on how to do this. Don’t delay for when you’re ready to start work.

Quite often, you will be offered your initial position while still studying (even in the early stages). If your CV doesn’t show your latest training profile – or it’s not getting in front of interviewers, then you’re not even going to be known about!

Generally, a specialist independent regional recruitment consultant or service (who will, of course, be keen to place you to receive their commission) is going to give you a better service than a sector of a centralised training facility. It also stands to reason that they’ll be familiar with local industry and the area better.

In a nutshell, as long as you focus the same level of energy into getting a job as into studying, you won’t have any problems. Some students strangely spend hundreds of hours on their training course and just give up once qualified and seem to expect employers to find them.

Sometimes, individuals don’t catch on to what IT means. It’s stimulating, innovative, and puts you at the fore-front of developments in technology that will change our world over the next few decades.

We’re only just beginning to comprehend what this change will mean to us. The way we correlate with the world as a whole will be inordinately affected by computers and the internet.

Let’s not ignore salaries moreover – the income on average in the UK for an average IT professional is significantly better than remuneration packages in other sectors. It’s likely that you’ll earn a much greater package than you’d expect to earn doing other work.

Demand for well trained and qualified IT technicians is a fact of life for quite some time to come, thanks to the continuous increase in this sector and the very large skills gap still present.

An area that’s often missed by potential students weighing up a particular programme is ‘training segmentation’. This basically means how the program is broken down into parts for delivery to you, which can make a dramatic difference to where you end up.

You may think it logical (with training often lasting 2 or 3 years to pass all the required exams,) for your typical trainer to courier a single section at a time, as you complete each part. However:

How would they react if you didn’t complete everything at the speed they required? Often the prescribed exam order doesn’t work as well as an alternative path could be.

To provide the maximum security and flexibility, many trainees now want to request that all their modules (now paid for) are sent immediately, and not in a piecemeal fashion. That means it’s down to you at what speed and in which order you’d like to work.

It’s not uncommon for companies to offer inclusive exam guarantees – inevitably that means paying for the exams before you’ve even made a start on the course. But before you get taken in by guaranteed exams, be aware of the facts:

Thankfully, today we have to be a tad more knowledgeable about sales gimmicks – and usually we know that for sure it is actually an additional cost to us – they’re not just being charitable and doling out freebies!

The honest truth is that if a student pays for their own exams, when they’re ready to take them and not before, they’ll be in a better position to pass first time – because they’re aware of what they’ve paid and so will prepare more thoroughly.

Do the examinations somewhere local and look for the very best offer you can at the time.

Huge profits are secured by a significant number of organisations that get money upfront for exam fees. Many students don’t take them for one reason or another but the company keeps the money. Surprising as it sounds, providers exist that actually rely on students not sitting all the exams – as that’s very profitable for them.

Many training companies will insist on pre-tests and hold you back from re-takes until you’ve proven conclusively that you can pass – making an ‘exam guarantee’ just about worthless.

Exams taken at local centres are approximately 112 pounds in this country. Students should be very wary of forking out hundreds of pounds extra in ‘Exam Guarantee’ fees (often covertly rolled into the cost of the course) – when a quality course, support and a commitment to studying and the use of authorised exam preparation tools are actually the key to your success.

To become a proficient web designer qualified appropriately for today's job market, you should find training in Adobe Dreamweaver.

To become a proficient web designer qualified appropriately for today’s job market, you should find training in Adobe Dreamweaver.

For commercial applications you’ll be expected to have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the whole Adobe Web Creative Suite. This includes (though it’s not limited to) Flash and Action Script. Should you have ambitions to become an Adobe Certified Expert or Adobe Certified Professional (ACE or ACP) these skills will be absolutely essential.

Getting to grips with how to create a website is just the start. Traffic creation, maintaining content and various programming skills are also required. Think about training programmes with additional features that include these skills perhaps HTML, PHP and MySQL, as well as E-Commerce and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) skills.

How the program is actually delivered to you isn’t always given the appropriate level of importance. In what way are your training elements sectioned? And in what order and how fast does each element come?

Most companies will sell you some sort of program spread over 1-3 years, and courier the materials in pieces as you get to the end of each exam. Sounds reasonable? Well consider these facts:

What if you don’t finish every section? And what if the order provided doesn’t meet your requirements? Through no fault of your own, you may go a little slower and not receive all the modules you’ve paid for.

To be straight, the best option is to have a copy of their prescribed order of study, but get all the study materials at the start. It’s then all yours in the event you don’t complete everything at their required pace.

A study programme has to build towards a properly recognised qualification at the finale – definitely not some ‘in-house’ plaque for your wall.

If your certification doesn’t come from a company like Microsoft, Cisco, Adobe or CompTIA, then chances are it could have been a waste of time and effort – because no-one will recognise it.

The classroom style of learning we remember from school, involving piles of reference textbooks, is an up-hill struggle for the majority of us. If this sounds like you, look for learning programmes that are on-screen and interactive.

If we can get all of our senses involved in our learning, then the results are usually dramatically better.

Locate a program where you’re provided with an array of CD or DVD ROM’s – you’ll learn by watching video tutorials and demonstrations, and be able to use virtual lab’s to practice your new skills.

It makes sense to see a small selection of training examples before you make your decision. Always insist on videoed instructor demonstrations and interactive modules with audio-visual elements.

Select CD and DVD ROM based physical training media where possible. This then avoids all the potential pitfalls with broadband outages, failure and signal quality issues etc.

Don’t accept anything less than the current Microsoft (or Cisco, CompTIA etc.) accredited exam simulation and preparation packages.

Make sure that the exams you practice are not just posing the correct questions on the correct subjects, but also asking them in the same way that the proper exam will formulate them. It can really throw some students if the phraseology and format is completely different.

Why don’t you verify how much you know by doing tests and practice exams prior to taking the actual exam.

The CompTIA A+ course covers four specialised areas – the requirement is exam passes in two of these areas to be competent in A+. Because of this, many training establishments simply provide 2 of the 4 sectors. We consider that this is selling you short – certainly you’ll have the qualification, but knowledge of every section will prepare you more fully for when you’re in the workplace, where you’ll need a more comprehensive understanding. That’s why we believe you deserve training in everything.

Passing the A+ exam on its own will allow you to fix and repair stand alone Macs, computers and laptops; principally ones that aren’t joined to a network – this generally applies to home use and small companies.

Perhaps you see yourself as a man or woman who is a member of a large organisation – fixing and supporting networks, add Network+ to your CompTIA A+, or alternatively look at doing an MCSA or MCSE with Microsoft as you’ll need a deeper understanding of the way networks operate.

It’s usual for students to get confused with one aspect of their training very rarely considered: The method used to ‘segment’ the courseware before being delivered to your home.

A release of your materials one stage at a time, taking into account your exam passes is the usual method of releasing your program. While sounding logical, you must understand the following:

What if for some reason you don’t get to the end of all the sections or exams? What if you don’t find their order of learning is ideal for you? Without any fault on your part, you may not meet the required timescales and not get all the study materials as a result.

In all honesty, the very best answer is to obtain their recommendation on the best possible order of study, but get all the study materials at the start. Everything is then in your possession in case you don’t finish within their ideal time-table.

Searching for your first position in IT sometimes feels easier to handle if you’re supported with a Job Placement Assistance facility. In reality it isn’t a complex operation to secure the right work – as long as you’re correctly trained and certified; because there’s still a great need for IT skills in the UK today.

Update your CV at the beginning of your training though (advice and support for this should come from your course provider). Don’t wait for when you’re ready to start work.

It’s not uncommon to find that junior support roles are offered to trainees who’re still on their course and haven’t even passed a single exam yet. This will at the very least get your CV into the ‘possible’ pile and not the ‘no’ pile.

If you’d like to get employment in your home town, then it’s quite likely that a specialist independent regional recruitment consultant or service may serve you better than a national service, because they’re far more likely to be familiar with local employment needs.

Essentially, if you put as much hard work into finding your first job as into training, you won’t find it too challenging. Some people bizarrely spend hundreds of hours on their course materials and then just stop once qualified and appear to be under the impression that jobs will come to them.

Any advisor who doesn’t ask you a lot of questions – the likelihood is they’re just a salesperson. If someone pushes specific products before getting to know your background and current experience level, then it’s very likely to be the case.

Often, the starting point of study for a trainee with some experience is often largely different to the student with none.

If you’re a new trainee commencing IT study as a new venture, you might like to ease in gradually, beginning with user-skills and software training first. This can be built into any study program.

Finding job security nowadays is incredibly rare. Companies can drop us out of the workplace at a moment’s notice – as long as it fits their needs.

Where there are rising skills deficits together with escalating demand however, we generally find a new kind of security in the marketplace; as fuelled by the constant growth conditions, businesses struggle to find the influx of staff needed.

Recently, a national e-Skills study highlighted that more than 26 percent of computing and IT jobs haven’t been filled as an upshot of a lack of appropriately certified professionals. This shows that for every 4 jobs available across the computer industry, we’ve only got three properly trained pro’s to fulfil that role.

This troubling idea highlights the requirement for more appropriately trained computer professionals around the UK.

With the market growing at such a rate, it’s unlikely there’s any better area of industry worth looking at for your new career.

You should feel pleased that you’ve made it this far! Only one in ten folks enjoy their work and find it stimulating, but vast numbers just bitch about it and that’s it. Because you’ve done research we have a hunch that you’re at least considering retraining, which means you’re already ahead of the pack. What comes next is get busy to find your direction.

When considering retraining, it’s important that you have in mind your requirements from the position you’re hoping to qualify for. Be sure that things would be a lot better before much time and effort is spent re-directing your life. So much better to look at the big picture first, to make an informed decision:

* Do you hope for interaction with others? If so, do you like working with the same people or is meeting new people important to you? Or are you better working in isolation?

* What thoughts are fundamental with regard to the sector of industry you hope to work in?

* Is this the last time you want to study, and if it is, do you suppose your new career will give you scope to do that?

* Would you like your training course to be in an area where you believe you’ll have a job up to retirement age?

We would strongly recommend that you consider IT – it’s common knowledge that it’s getting bigger. IT isn’t all techie geeks gazing at their PC’s every day – we know there are those roles, but the majority of roles are done by ordinary people who are earning rather well.

The age-old way of teaching, involving piles of reference textbooks, is often a huge slog for most of us. If you’re nodding as you read this, check out study materials that are on-screen and interactive.

Research into the way we learn shows that long term memory is improved when we receive multi-sensorial input, and we put into practice what we’ve been studying.

Interactive audio-visual materials featuring instructor demo’s and practice lab’s will beat books every time. And they’re a lot more fun to do.

It makes sense to see some of the typical study materials provided before you purchase a course. What you want are videoed instructor demonstrations and a variety of audio-visual and interactive sections.

Choose disc based courseware (On CD or DVD) every time. Thus avoiding all the issues associated with broadband ‘downtime’ or slow-speeds.

Starting from the idea that it’s necessary to find the job we want to do first, before we can even chew over what method of training fulfils our needs, how do we know the correct route?

Because in the absence of any commercial skills in the IT industry, how can most of us know what someone in a particular job does?

Generally, the way to deal with this issue in the best manner comes from a full discussion of a variety of topics:

* Personalities play a significant part – what gives you a ‘kick’, and what are the areas that really turn you off.

* What sort of time-frame do you want for the training process?

* What scale of importance is the salary – is it of prime importance, or does job satisfaction rate further up on your priority-list?

* With many, many areas to train for in Information Technology – there’s a need to pick up a basic understanding of what separates them.

* Taking a good look into the effort, commitment and time that you’re going to put into it.

To completely side-step all the jargon and confusion, and uncover the best route for you, have a good talk with an advisor with years of experience; an individual that can impart the commercial reality and of course the certifications.

There are colossal changes about to hit technology over the next few decades – and the industry becomes more ground-breaking every year.

Computer technology and interaction on the web will dramatically alter the direction of our lives over the coming years; incredibly so.

A typical IT professional in Great Britain will also earn noticeably more than his or her counterpart in much of the rest of the economy. Average wages are amongst the highest in the country.

Apparently there’s a lot more room for IT industry expansion in the UK. The sector is still growing rapidly, and with the skills shortage of over 26 percent that we’re experiencing, it’s most unlikely that it will even slow down for quite some time to come.

Can job security really exist anywhere now? In the UK for instance, where business constantly changes its mind whenever it suits, it certainly appears not.

However, a marketplace with high growth, with huge staffing demands (through a massive shortage of properly qualified people), opens the possibility of true job security.

The 2006 UK e-Skills survey brought to light that 26 percent of all IT positions available cannot be filled mainly due to a lack of trained staff. Meaning that for every four jobs that are available around the computer industry, there are only 3 trained people to fulfil that role.

This basic idea highlights the requirement for more technically accredited computer professionals around the United Kingdom.

Surely, it really is the very best time to retrain into the computing industry.

The Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator course is an ideal qualification for all those considering becoming a supporter of networks. So if you’re already experienced but want to add to that with a recognised qualification, or you’re new to the IT industry, you’ll have the ability to choose a program to help you.

If you’re thinking of moving into the world of IT for the 1st time, it’s likely you’ll have to learn a few things prior to having a go at the 4 MCP exams needed to achieve MCSA certification. Find a provider that can tailor your studying to help you – try to talk this through with an industry expert to analyse your best course of action.

We can all agree: There really is absolutely no individual job security anymore; there’s only market and business security – as any company can fire a solitary member of staff when it meets the company’s commercial interests.

But a quickly growing market-place, where staff are in constant demand (due to a growing shortfall of fully trained people), opens the possibility of lasting job security.

The Information Technology (IT) skills shortage in the United Kingdom currently stands at roughly 26 percent, as reported by the most recent e-Skills survey. This shows that for every four jobs existing around computing, there are barely three qualified workers to perform that task.

Attaining in-depth commercial IT accreditation is thus an effective route to a long-lasting and pleasing line of work.

While the market is developing at such a speed, is there any other area of industry worth taking into account for a new career.

The right sort of training program will undoubtedly incorporate accredited exam preparation systems.

Students regularly can find themselves confused by trying to prepare themselves with questions that aren’t recognised by authorised sources. Often, the phraseology can be completely unlike un-authorised versions and you need to be ready for this.

As you can imagine, it is vital to ensure that you’re absolutely ready for the real exam prior to doing it. Rehearsing simulated exams logs the information in your brain and saves you time and money on unsuccessful attempts at exams.

Typically, a new trainee will not know to ask about a vitally important element – the way the company actually breaks down and delivers the courseware sections, and into what particular chunks.

Trainees may consider it sensible (with most training taking 1-3 years to achieve full certification,) for many training providers to send out a single section at a time, until you’ve passed all the exams. However:

Often, the staged breakdown offered by the provider doesn’t suit. And what if you don’t finish all the sections at the speed required?

In all honesty, the perfect answer is to have their ideal ‘order’ of training laid out, but get everything up-front. You then have everything if you don’t manage to finish at their required pace.

Don’t put too much store, as can often be the case, on the training process. Training is not an end in itself; you’re training to become commercially employable. Begin and continue with the end in mind.

It’s a testament to the marketing skills of the big companies, but a great many students kick-off study that often sounds spectacular in the syllabus guide, but which gets us a career that is of no interest at all. Talk to many college graduates for examples.

Prioritise understanding what industry will expect from you. Which exams they’ll want you to gain and how you’ll build your experience level. You should also spend a little time thinking about how far you’d like to progress your career as it will often control your selection of certifications.

Look for advice and guidance from an experienced advisor, irrespective of whether you have to pay – as it’s a lot cheaper and safer to find out at the beginning if you’ve chosen correctly, instead of finding out following two years of study that the job you’ve chosen is not for you and have to start from the beginning again.

If it weren’t for a constant influx of qualified network and PC support staff, commerce throughout the country (and indeed in most countries) would surely grind to a halt. Consequently, there’s a constantly increasing demand for technically able people to support systems and users alike. Industry’s need for larger numbers of skilled and qualified individuals grows, as we become vastly more reliant on PC’s in the twenty first century.

Searching for your first position in IT can be a little easier with the help of a Job Placement Assistance facility. With the growing skills shortage in the UK today, it’s not necessary to make too much of this option though. It isn’t so complicated as you might think to get your first job once you’re trained and certified.

Nevertheless, avoid waiting until you’ve finished your training before polishing up your CV. As soon as you start a course, list what you’re working on and get it out there!

It’s not unusual to find that you will be offered your first job whilst you’re still studying (occasionally right at the beginning). If your CV doesn’t show your latest training profile – or it’s not getting in front of interviewers, then you aren’t even in the running!

Generally, you’ll receive better performance from an independent and specialised local recruitment consultancy than you’ll experience from any training course provider’s recruitment division, because they’ll know the local area and commercial needs better.

In a nutshell, as long as you focus the same level of energy into finding a job as into training, you won’t find it too challenging. Some people strangely conscientiously work through their training and studies and then just stop once certified and appear to be under the impression that jobs will come to them.

Looking around, we find a myriad of professional positions up for grabs in Information Technology. Picking the right one out of this complexity is generally problematic.

I mean, if you’ve got no experience in the IT market, how are you equipped to know what someone in a particular field actually does day-to-day? Let alone arrive at which training route would be most appropriate for you to get there.

Ultimately, an informed decision only comes via a careful analysis of several unique factors:

* The sort of individual you consider yourself to be – the tasks that you enjoy doing, plus of course – what you definitely don’t enjoy.

* Why you’re looking at stepping into Information Technology – it could be you’re looking to overcome some personal goal like firing your boss and working for yourself for example.

* How highly do you rate salary – is an increase your main motivator, or does job satisfaction rate a little higher on the scale of your priorities?

* There are many areas to train for in IT – you’ll need to get a basic understanding of what separates them.

* You have to understand what differentiates each area of training.

When all is said and done, the most intelligent way of checking this all out is from a good talk with someone that understands the market well enough to lead you to the correct decision.

A key training program will undoubtedly also include accredited simulation materials and exam preparation packages.

Due to the fact that a lot of examining boards for IT come from the United States, you’ll need to be used to the correct phraseology. It’s no use just understanding random questions – it’s essential that you can cope with them in the proper exam format.

Ensure that you verify your depth of understanding by doing quizzes and mock ups of exams prior to taking the actual exam.

Exam ‘guarantees’ are sometimes offered as part of a training package – this always means you have to pay for the exams at the start of your training. But before you get taken in by the chance of a guarantee, be aware of the facts:

Clearly it’s not free – you are paying for it – the cost has just been rolled into the whole training package.

People who take exams one at a time, paying as they go are far more likely to pass first time. They are conscious of what they’ve paid and take the necessary steps to be up to the task.

Shouldn’t you be looking to not pay up-front, but at the appropriate time, instead of paying a premium to the college, and also to sit exams more locally – instead of miles away at the college’s beck and call?

Why tie up your cash (or borrow more than you need) for exams when you don’t need to? A lot of profit is made because training colleges are getting paid upfront for exams – and then hoping that you won’t take them all.

Also, exam guarantees often have very little value. The majority of companies won’t pay again for an exam until you can prove to them you’re ready to pass.

Exam fees averaged around the 112 pounds mark in the last 12 months via Prometric or VUE centres around the United Kingdom. So why pay hundreds or thousands of pounds extra to have ‘Exam Guarantees’, when any student knows that the most successful method is a commitment to studying and the use of authorised exam preparation tools.
